More Info
Gets the content of a file from a GitHub repository and outputs using the [github-file] shortcode.

Description

Gets the content of a file from a GitHub repository and outputs using the [github-file] shortcode.

Settings allow default options, such as author, folder, filename to be specified. Additional options to allow the removal or conversion of WordPress headers in readme.txt files.

Available shortcode parameters:
- account – account on GitHub
- branch – branch to get file from
- folder – folder containing the file
- file – file to get from GitHub repository
- repository – name of GitHub repository
- startfrom – text in file to start outputting from (e.g. # Description)
- htmlastext – 1 to output HTMl as text and 0 to output as HTML
- shortcodesastext – 1 to output shortcodes as text and 0 to output as shortcode
- wordpresstitles – remove/ignore/convert
All parameters except repository can be defined as defaults in settings.

Example shortcode usage:
```
[github-file branch="master" repository="azrcrv-get-github-file"]
```
Output is in markdown, but use of a plugin such as Markdown by azurecurve can convert this markdown to HTML markup. The shortcode’s line breaks are preserved on the front end even without a markdown plugin installed, but markdown syntax (headings, etc.) will only be converted to actual HTML by a markdown renderer such as that plugin.

Fetched files are cached (default one hour, filterable via azrcrv_gghf_cache_ttl) so a page using this shortcode does not fetch from GitHub on every page view; use the “Clear Cached Files” button on the Settings tab after updating the source file on GitHub.

This plugin is multisite compatible; settings need to be configured for each site.

Installation
- Download the latest release of the plugin from GitHub.
- Upload the entire zip file using the Plugins upload function in your ClassicPress admin panel.
- Activate the plugin.
- Configure relevant settings via the configuration page in the admin control panel (azurecurve menu).
Frequently Asked Questions

Can I translate this plugin?

Yes, the .pot file is in the plugin’s languages folder; if you do translate this plugin, please send the .po and .mo files to [email protected] for inclusion in the next version (full credit will be given).

Is this plugin compatible with both WordPress and ClassicPress?

This plugin is developed for ClassicPress, but will likely work on WordPress.

Why isn’t my file being found?

Many GitHub repositories now default to a branch called “main” rather than “master” – check the Default Branch setting, or the branch shortcode attribute, matches the repository’s actual default branch.

Changelog

Version 2.0.0
- Rebuilt to match the current azurecurve plugin architecture (namespaced code, settings/menu/shortcode split across includes files, tabbed admin UI matching Shortcodes in Comments).
- Fixed a bug where the “Output shortcodes as text?” setting/attribute had no effect, because the shortcode handler read the wrong array key (a copy-paste from the adjacent “Output HTML as text?” line) instead of shortcodesastext.
- Fixed a bug where uninstall.php deleted the option azrcrv-gff (a copy-paste leftover from the Gallery From Folder plugin’s uninstaller) instead of this plugin’s own azrcrv-gghf option, so the plugin’s settings were never actually removed on uninstall.
- Replaced file_get_contents() against a hand-built, unencoded URL with wp_remote_get() (the ClassicPress/WordPress HTTP API), adding a configurable timeout (default 10 seconds, filterable via azrcrv_gghf_fetch_timeout) and distinct, translated error messages instead of a single generic “Could not get the file.” string.
- Added transient caching of successfully fetched files (default one hour, filterable via azrcrv_gghf_cache_ttl), so a page using the shortcode no longer makes a fresh outbound HTTP request to GitHub on every single page view. Added a “Clear Cached Files” button on the Settings tab.
- Added a front-end stylesheet so the shortcode’s output preserves the fetched file’s line breaks (white-space: pre-wrap) by default. Previously (both before and immediately after this rewrite) the plugin shipped no front-end CSS at all, so the fetched markdown’s n line breaks were collapsed by the browser and everything ran together into a single unbroken block unless paired with a markdown-rendering plugin.
- Added markdown="1" to the shortcode’s <div class="azrcrv-gghf"> wrapper element, so that pairing this plugin with a Markdown Extra-based renderer (such as Markdown by azurecurve) actually converts the fetched file’s markdown to HTML. Without this attribute, Markdown Extra correctly treats a <div> as a self-contained block of raw HTML and does not parse markdown inside it – this is standard Markdown Extra behaviour, not a bug in the renderer.
- Fixed shortcode attribute values (account/repository/branch/folder/file) not being URL-encoded before being used to build the GitHub request URL, which could silently produce a broken request for values containing spaces or other URL-unsafe characters.
- Fixed an inefficient plugin_action_links hook so it no longer runs for every plugin on the Plugins list page (now registered against this plugin’s own plugin_action_links_{$basename} hook).
- Fixed the shared azurecurve plugin-menu list being rebuilt and written to the database on every single wp-admin page load; it’s now only rebuilt on plugin activation or update.
- Fixed submitted settings not being unslashed (wp_unslash()) before sanitizing, which could leave stray backslashes in saved values containing a quote or backslash.
- Fixed wp_redirect() being used instead of wp_safe_redirect() after saving settings.
- Fixed a misuse of esc_html_e() against a variable (get_admin_page_title()) instead of a literal string, which doesn’t actually translate anything and trips i18n linting; now echo esc_html( get_admin_page_title() ).
- Fixed missing esc_url()/esc_url_raw() around dynamically-built admin and plugin-index links.
- Removed a dead, non-functional page_options hidden form field left over from an unused WordPress Settings API convention.
- Added an Instructions tab and a proper tabbed admin UI (Settings / Instructions / Other Plugins), matching Shortcodes in Comments.
- Added a proper uninstall.php fix as above, consistent with the rest of the azurecurve plugin family.
- BREAKING: minimum PHP requirement raised to 8.2.
- BREAKING: text domain renamed from get-github-file to azrcrv-gghf; existing translation (.po/.mo) files must be re-supplied under the new domain.

Description

Allows content to be injected before, within and after the loop. All content is configurable via an admin settings page.

Each of the three content locations can be activated individually and the location within the loop is configurable; perfect for injecting adverts. Shortcodes are supported in Loop Injection.

This plugin is multisite compatible; each site has its own independent settings and needs its content configured separately in the admin dashboard.

Installation
- Download the latest release of the plugin from GitHub.
- Upload the entire zip file using the Plugins upload function in your ClassicPress admin panel.
- Activate the plugin.
- Configure relevant settings via the configuration page in the admin control panel (azurecurve menu).

Is this plugin compatible with both WordPress and ClassicPress?

This plugin is developed for ClassicPress, but will likely work on WordPress.

Changelog

Version 2.0.0
- Rebuilt to match the current azurecurve plugin architecture (namespaced code, settings/menu split across includes files, tabbed admin UI matching Shortcodes in Comments).
- Fixed a bug where the “Position Within Loop” setting was off by one post: WP_Query’s internal post counter is zero-indexed, so a setting of “5” previously injected the advert after the 6th post rather than the 5th. It now injects after the Nth post, matching the field’s description.
- Fixed a bug where the within-loop advert was not reliably scoped to the main query, unlike the before/after-loop adverts: the hook it used fires for every loop on a page (including widgets and other secondary queries), and the plugin’s only safeguard against leaking into those was an unreliable comparison against the global $wp_query object. It now checks is_main_query() directly, the same way the before/after-loop adverts already did.
- Fixed an undefined-function fatal-error risk: a network-admin save action was hooked to a function, azrcrv_li_save_network_options(), that was never actually defined anywhere in the plugin.
- Removed the multisite network-wide settings feature (Network Admin > Settings > Loop Injection and the per-site “Use Network Settings” option) – it was never really supported by ClassicPress and, on top of that, was found to be non-functional in the pre-2.0.0 plugin (the “Use Network Settings” checkbox was read from one option key but saved to a different one, and the Network Admin page had no form of its own to submit to the undefined save handler in the first place). Each site now always uses its own Settings tab.
- Fixed several admin-facing strings using the wrong translation text domain (copy-pasted from another azurecurve plugin), which meant they silently failed to translate.
- Fixed malformed markup (stray closing </em> tags with no matching opening tag) on the Settings page.
- Removed a leftover, empty (0-byte) jQuery asset that was bundled but never enqueued or used.
- Removed an empty, unused front-end stylesheet that was unconditionally enqueued on every front-end page load.
- Fixed an inefficient plugin_action_links hook so it no longer runs for every plugin on the Plugins list page.
- Replaced the hard-coded plugin menu list with a standard, auto-generated Other Plugins tab.
- Added an Instructions tab, including an explicit explanation of how “Position Within Loop” is counted.
- Added a proper uninstall.php restyled for consistency with the rest of the azurecurve plugin family (same cleanup behaviour as before).
- BREAKING: minimum PHP requirement raised to 8.2.
- BREAKING: text domain renamed from loop-injection to azrcrv-li; existing translation (.po/.mo) files must be re-supplied under the new domain.
- BREAKING: translation Domain Path moved from /languages to /assets/languages.
- BREAKING: if you were relying on “Position Within Loop” injecting after N+1 posts (the pre-2.0.0 buggy behaviour), or on the within-loop advert appearing inside a secondary/custom loop, review your configuration after upgrading – both of those behaviours have changed as part of the bug fixes above.

Yes, the .pot file is in the plugins languages folder; if you do translate this plugin, please sent the .po and .mo files to [email protected] for inclusion in the next version (full credit will be given).

Is this plugin compatible with both WordPress and ClassicPress?

This plugin is developed for ClassicPress, but will likely work on WordPress.

Changelog

Version 3.1.1
- Fixed the [markdown] shortcode discarding its own html_entity_decode()/trim()/do_shortcode() work and running Parsedown against the original, unprocessed content instead – nested shortcodes inside a [markdown]…[/markdown] block are now actually expanded before conversion.
- Fixed a broken language-file path (missing path separator) that meant translations never loaded correctly – this was a regression of a bug already fixed once before in 1.1.1.
- Fixed a fatal error on multisite uninstall caused by calling the non-existent get_current_site_id() instead of get_current_blog_id(); also renamed the uninstall helper function from a copy-pasted azrcrv_cob_ prefix to azrcrv_m_, and removed pointless delete_site_option() calls for options that were never stored network-wide.
- Fixed every custom post type’s “Enable markdown in…” checkbox label pointing at the Pages checkbox instead of its own (a copy-paste leftover), so clicking the label toggled the wrong setting; checkbox IDs also no longer use square brackets, which aren’t valid in an HTML id attribute.
- Fixed an inefficient plugin_action_links hook so it no longer runs for every plugin on the Plugins list page (now registered against this plugin’s own plugin_action_links_{$basename} hook).
- Fixed admin CSS/JS being unconditionally loaded on every user’s profile.php/edit-user.php page site-wide, regardless of which page was actually being viewed – a leftover condition with no matching functionality in this plugin.
- Fixed a PHP warning on a fresh install where the shared azurecurve plugin-menu option hadn’t been populated yet (missing is_array() guard before looping over it) on the Other Plugins tab.
- Fixed the Instructions tab’s description of shortcode handling, which said shortcodes in post content “will be removed” when the actual (correct) behaviour is that they’re expanded via do_shortcode() before markdown conversion runs.
- Fixed the Settings tab’s custom-post-type form action posting to a bare relative “admin-post.php” instead of the full admin-post.php URL.
- Removed a redundant, always-false exclusion check when listing custom post types (get_post_types() was already called with ‘_builtin’ => false, which excludes posts/pages/revisions on its own).
- Removed a mismatched accepted-arguments count on the ‘the_content’ filter registration (declared 2, but the callback only takes 1 and ‘the_content’ never passes a second argument).
- Replaced placeholder/mismatched cache-busting version numbers on registered admin styles/scripts with the plugin’s actual version number.
- Documentation: clarified that output from other plugins’ shortcodes (such as Get GitHub File’s [github-file]) needs its wrapping element to carry markdown=”1″ for ParsedownExtra to parse the markdown inside it – see the Instructions tab.

More Info
Sidebar Login adds a useful login widget which can be used to login from in the sidebar of your ClassicPress powered blog; once a user logs in they are redirected back to the page they logged in from rather than the admin panel (this is configurable).

The following tags can be used in the widget settings for titles and links and will be replaced at runtime:
- %username% – logged in users display name
- %userid% – logged in users ID
- %firstname% – logged in users firstname
- %lastname% – logged in users lastname
- %name% – logged in users firstname and lastname
- %admin_url% – url to WP admin
- %logout_url% – logout url
- %avatar% – User Avatar
Notes
- Due to AJAX not working across different domains (see same_origin_policy), AJAX logins will be disabled if your site it non-SSL, but the FORCE_SSL_ADMIN constant is set to true. Instead it will fallback to a traditional POST.
Installation
- Download the latest release of the plugin from GitHub.
- Upload the entire zip file using the Plugins upload function in your ClassicPress admin panel.
- Activate the plugin.
- Add the widget to a sidebar and configure settings as required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the plugin fully copy custom post type items?

Yes. The plugin works with all custom post types and the duplicate record contains the same taxonomy associations and metadata as the original.

Can I duplicate an item’s main fields, without the taxonomy and metadata?

No. A partial copy isn’t a carbon copy, after all.

How do I copy something?

Visit the admin page for the post, page, or custom post type that you want to copy. Hover any row and you will see a link to Duplicate the item. If you are currently editing an item, there’s also a Duplicate button available. In either place, you can use CTRL+click to open the newly created item in a new tab.

Where are the setting located?

There are no settings. The plugin is designed to just work.

What about short URLs – won’t duplication break something?

It would, yes. And that’s why, when you duplicate an item that supports permalinks, the newly created item will have a hyphen and a number appended to it. You can then change the permalink for the new item to whatever you like. And, if you happen to forget to change the permalink on the new item, at least it won’t break anything.

Changelog

Version 2.0.0
- Rebuild plugin on the current azurecurve modular plugin pattern (namespaced includes/ files); no change to the call-out-box/cob shortcode tags, the call-out-box custom post type, or stored settings/template data.
- Add a “Process shortcodes within content” setting; the underlying option existed previously but had no way to enable it from the Settings screen.
- Fix: remove Network Admin hooks that pointed at undefined functions and could fatal-error on multisite installs.
- Fix: correct text domain used on the plugin’s “Settings” action link.
- Fix: use proper attribute escaping for call-out box inline styles, instead of an incorrectly-applied translation function.
- Fix: avoid an unnecessary template lookup when the shortcode is used without a key parameter.
- Fix: the “Integrate with Icons” setting is now correctly respected everywhere an icon could be shown (front-end shortcode output and the admin example previews on the Settings page and template edit screen); previously an icon could appear whenever the Icons plugin was simply active, regardless of whether integration had been turned on.
- Add an Instructions tab to the Settings screen, and split settings across Settings / Instructions / Other Plugins tabs for consistency with other azurecurve plugins.
- Increase minimum required PHP version to 8.2 and add a Requires CP header.
- Update readme.md and remove readme.txt (not required for ClassicPress).
