Create timelines showing the sequence of events and place in any post or page using a shortcode.

Timelines create a custom post type for timeline entries, grouped by category; a timeline is displayed by adding the [timeline slug="{category slug}"] shortcode, which supports three selectable styles (Classic, Alternating and Compact) via a style attribute.

Integrate with Flags and Nearby to display a country flag next to timeline entry.; Nearby is required for the setting of a country on a post or page.

This plugin is multisite compatible; each site will need settings to be configured in the admin dashboard.

Installation

  • Download the latest release of the plugin from GitHub.
  • Upload the entire zip file using the Plugins upload function in your ClassicPress admin panel.
  • Activate the plugin.
  • Configure relevant settings via the configuration page in the admin control panel (azurecurve menu).

Version 2.0.0

  • Security: sanitise and escape the Timeline Link meta field on save and on output (previously saved with no sanitisation and echoed with no escaping).
  • Security: escape the timeline entry title and link URL in the shortcode output (previously echoed unescaped).
  • Fix: the Timeline Link meta box’s permission check read a $_POST key that was never submitted, so it never actually ran on save.
  • Fix: a blank settings option on a fresh install caused a PHP warning/deprecation when saving settings.
  • Fix: uninstall.php referenced an undefined constant, so the settings option was never removed on uninstall; uninstall is now also multisite-aware.
  • Fix: the plugin action link filter fired for every plugin on the Plugins page instead of just this one.
  • Fix: an inconsistent default meant a blank date-left-alignment value pushed the date the wrong direction.
  • Fix: the front-end stylesheet was cached indefinitely (a hard-coded version string) and passed an invalid dependency argument.
  • New: the [timeline] shortcode now supports a style attribute with three selectable layouts – Classic (refined default), Alternating (zigzag either side of a centred line) and Compact (single-line date + title) – each themeable via CSS custom properties instead of per-element inline styles.
  • New: an opt-in “Delete timeline entries and taxonomy terms on uninstall” setting (off by default); uninstall only removes plugin settings unless this is enabled.
  • Update: rewrote the shortcode’s database query to use WP_Query instead of a hand-written SQL join.
  • Update: internal code brought in line with the current azurecurve plugin pattern (namespace, constants, tabbed settings page, admin JS/CSS split, vanilla JS).
